The colors of a night by the sea

Taken at 6 am via an iPhone 12 Pro Max with 10s exposure — that’s the closest to what I saw but much brighter

I did not know a dark night could actually have vivid colors until a few days ago when I camped just 50 yards away on a cliff in Mendocino.

With my eyes wide open in the total darkness, I saw that the ocean and the sky were somehow presenting a canvas of deep rich nautical colors with movements and soothing sound.

The moon was still young but already bright enough to cast a long shadow of shining silvery mosaic on the surface of the ocean. It was constantly dancing through the fast passing cotton-candy-like white and gray clouds, which made its silvery mosaic shadow come and go. The ocean waves added the dynamics of the color of black, gray, blue, and the splashes cut through the formation of these ever-changing color blocks into lightening shades of the formers and the tiniest pieces of them gone totally white.

The darkness of the night added some surprising contrast to these surreal, rich, and lively colors.

The colors of a night by the sea can be a composition of million shades of navy blue and grey and white.

I was deeply moved by what I saw.

The earthy world is so beautiful, even in the deepest night. If you were lucky to be on the right spot, you could still enjoy a special spectrum of colors it offers.
